A further speciality of the Panchachuli women weavers is the treatment and processing of the giant nettles which grow in the Himalayan plateaus. The plants are gathered in autumn and are processed into yarn using an elaborate process.

Baldoti:

The Baldoti collection is named after one of the original villages where training programs for handlooms was started and is comprised of unusual products made from the fiber of the Himalayan Nettle plant. The processing of the fiber from the rough bark is done through a series of labor-intensive traditional processes. After the fiber is extracted, the spinning and knitting is done by hand. The collection includes the plain nettle fiber in it's natural color, a palette of dyes available in nettle and swatch where dyes as well as silk lining and wooden beads are added which look beautiful in scarves and stoles.

Products:

The knitted nettle shawls are beautiful summer accessories which can either be used as light scarves or, underlain with silk and with inlaid wooden pearls, as an exquisite shoulder wrap for warm summer evenings. They are Fibre from the giant Himalayan nettle plant, which is extracted from the stem by traditional organic methods. The yarn, spun by hand from the fibre, is strong, good looking and versatile creating delicate knitted stoles and shawls.
